Steam Capsule Art Size: Store and Library Assets
Reviewed against the linked Steamworks documentation. Steam can change its rules; the linked pages are authoritative.
Short answer: on the Steam store, the header capsule is 920x430, the small capsule 462x174, the main capsule 1232x706 and the vertical capsule 748x896. In the Steam library, the capsule is 600x900, the header 920x430 and the hero 3840x1240, and the logo is a transparent PNG 1280px wide and/or 720px tall. Sizes from Steamworks, last checked 8 Nov 2026.
Scope: the current store-page and library assets listed on the two Steamworks pages linked below. It does not cover every community, event, profile or broadcast image. Rows marked as Steam rules are paraphrased from Steamworks; tips marked Our advice are our opinion.
1. Store page assets
| Asset | Upload size (px) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Header capsule | 920x430 | Base capsule: artwork, game name and official subtitle only. |
| Small capsule | 462x174 | Upload 462x174. Steam generates the smaller display versions (such as 184x69 and 120x45) from it; they are not separate uploads. |
| Main capsule | 1232x706 | Base capsule: artwork, game name and official subtitle only. |
| Vertical capsule | 748x896 | Portrait-format store capsule. |
| Page background | 1438x810 | Background artwork for the store page. |
| Screenshots | 1920x1080 minimum | 16:9, at least 5 images showing gameplay. |
| Bundle header (optional) | 707x232 | Only needed if you set up a bundle. |
Steam rule All sizes in this table: Steamworks: graphical assets. The smaller small-capsule sizes Steam shows (such as 184x69 and 120x45) are generated by Steam from your 462x174 upload.
2. Library assets
| Asset | Upload size (px) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Library capsule | 600x900 | Steam generates a 300x450 PNG version from it. |
| Library header | 920x430 | Listed separately under library assets. |
| Library hero | 3840x1240 | Steam generates a 1920x620 PNG version. No text in the hero; the logo is a separate layer. The 860x380 center safe area is a layout guide, not an upload size. |
| Library logo | 1280px wide and/or 720px tall | Transparent PNG at your logo's own aspect ratio. Not a fixed 1280x720 canvas. |
- Steam rule Library logo: a transparent PNG that is 1280px wide and/or 720px tall, at the logo's own aspect ratio. A wide logo can be 1280px wide and shorter than 720px; a tall one can be 720px tall and narrower than 1280px. You do not need to pad it onto a 1280x720 canvas (Steamworks: library assets).
- Steam rule Library hero: 3840x1240 with no text; the logo is uploaded separately and shown on top of it. The 860x380 center safe area is a layout guide inside the hero, not an upload size (library assets).
- Steam rule Steam generates the 300x450 library capsule and 1920x620 hero versions from your full-size uploads; upload the full sizes (library assets).
3. What may appear on a base capsule
- Steam rule Game artwork, the game name and an official subtitle only. No marketing taglines, review scores or quotes, award logos or calls to action (Steamworks: asset rules).
- Steam rule The rules page describes limited exceptions for some temporary or localized artwork; read it before relying on one (asset rules).
4. Common mistakes
- Uploading the display sizes. 184x69 and 120x45 are generated from the 462x174 small capsule; 300x450 and 1920x620 are generated library versions. Upload the full sizes in the tables.
- Using the hero safe area as the hero size. 860x380 is the center safe area inside a 3840x1240 upload, not an upload size.
- Forcing the logo onto a 1280x720 canvas. Steamworks asks for 1280px wide and/or 720px tall at the logo's own proportions, on a transparent background.
- Baking text or the logo into the hero. The hero carries no text; the logo is its own layer.
- Taglines and badges on base capsules. "Wishlist now", review quotes, award laurels and slogans are not allowed on base capsules.
- Treating a mock-up as an upload asset. Concept comps, including the 3 concepts in our pack, show a direction. They are not automatically upload-ready and nothing here guarantees Steam approval.
- Screenshots that are too small or not gameplay. Steam asks for at least 5 gameplay screenshots at 1920x1080 or larger in 16:9.
- Our advice Only checking at full size. Look at each capsule at the size players see it in lists. The capsule art feedback guide has a step-by-step self-review.
FAQ
What size is the Steam header capsule?
920x430 pixels, per the Steamworks graphical assets page. The library header listed on the library assets page is also 920x430.
What size is the Steam main capsule?
1232x706 pixels. Like the header and small capsule, it is a base capsule: game artwork, the game name and an official subtitle only.
Do I upload a 184x69 or 120x45 small capsule?
No. You upload the small capsule at 462x174 and Steam generates smaller display versions such as 184x69 and 120x45 from it. Check that your logo still reads at those sizes.
What size should the Steam library logo be?
A transparent PNG that is 1280 pixels wide and/or 720 pixels tall, at your logo's own aspect ratio. It does not have to fill a 1280x720 canvas.
Is 860x380 the library hero size?
No. The library hero is uploaded at 3840x1240 and Steam generates a 1920x620 version. 860x380 is the center safe area inside the hero, a layout guide rather than an upload size. Keep text and the logo out of the hero; the logo is a separate asset.
Can I put a tagline, review quote or award on a base capsule?
No. Steam's asset rules limit base capsules to game artwork, the game name and an official subtitle: no marketing taglines, review scores or quotes, award logos or calls to action.
Are the capsule concepts in the $29 pack ready to upload?
No. The pack contains 3 capsule concepts in total, one per format, built from your own Steam art. They are concept comps that show a direction, not upload-ready assets, and they carry no guarantee of Steam approval.
